How tutoring works

Consistent support each week.

Tutoring does not need to take over a student’s schedule. For many students, one consistent session each week is enough to improve understanding, confidence, and grades over time.

01

Start with the student

We begin with a free conversation about the course, the student’s current challenges, how they learn best, and what they want to improve.

02

Reserve a weekly time

A consistent day and time makes scheduling easier and gives the student a reliable place to bring questions each week.

03

Use each session well

Each session focuses on the student’s most important questions, explains the material clearly, and includes guided practice before they try it independently.

Regular support makes a difference.

A set weekly session gives students time to ask questions before small gaps become larger problems.

Good to know

Questions parents ask.

Who do you tutor?

Students across Ontario in Grades K–12. I tutor math and science through Grade 10, plus Grade 11 Functions, Grade 12 Advanced Functions and Calculus, and Grade 11–12 Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

How do online sessions work?

Sessions are live and one-on-one over Zoom. We can work from class notes, homework, review packages, or a personalized plan, with screen sharing and a digital whiteboard to keep the lesson active.

Is tutoring aligned with my child’s course?

Yes. Lessons are shaped around Ontario curriculum expectations and the student’s current classroom materials, so support stays relevant to what they are learning now.

What tutoring rates are available?

Rates are set by course level: $50/hour for grades K–8, $60/hour for grades 9–10, $70/hour for grades 11–12 (3U and 4U STEM), and $85/hour for first-year university biology. Prepay ten sessions and save 5%; a second sibling is 10% off.

Do students meet at a set weekly time?

Yes, whenever possible. A reserved weekly day and time gives the student a dependable routine and helps us address confusion before it begins to accumulate.

What is the cancellation policy?

Please provide at least six hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than six hours’ notice are charged at 50% of the session fee.

Can we start with a consultation?

Absolutely. A free introductory conversation is the best way to discuss the student’s course, goals, learning style, and whether The STEM Spot is the right fit.
